Hailing from the streets of Attridgeville, west of Pretoria, the talented Lehlohonolo Molefe, popularly known as 25K, recently serenaded his audiences with a few singles from his very first album, 'Pheli Makaveli', set to drop at the end of July.

That production was legendary for a hip hop album because they werent just beats they were songs.25K breaks down Pheli Makaveli and the street code Leaving the streets for the trap life. The guitar/bass work on tracks like Life of an outlaw, to live/die in la, white mans world, krazy, bonnie/clyde, thats still to this day some of the best guitar/bass compositions I've heard for a hip hop album, almost 20 yrs later. It sounds like it was a album made together with everyone in the same room, not just 2pac rapping over some beats that were sent to him by some outside producers. And they came up with a whole album of beats that fit 2pac's mood at that time perfectly, and you could just tell they were all on the same page creatively. Its not about how great the mix is or how great the beat sounds on its own, its how does it fit the artist. There wasn t even really much synths used at all, and thats what made it so great.Ģpac sounded great over any beat, but I thought he sounded best over tracks with live guitar and bass, and thats pretty much what this whole album was and I thought it fit him perfect, which is why they get kudos from me as producers. Majority of the sounds on the album were real guitars and basses, so idk how it could sound like a cheap synth. To each his own, but calling that production amaturish and general midi sounding is just ridiculous. He also had an album or two worth of unleaked 2Pac tunes which I assume he took to the grave with him.Īctually, now that I think of it, I remember Johnny J was planning to join 2Pac on his new label, so maybe he quit working for deathrow before 7 Day Theory, as he was unhappy about being screwed over with money matters.Funny those tracks you mentioned are the only tracks I particularly like from the album! 2 Live and Die & White mans world are definetely worthy for Pac!Īnd AGREED about Johnny J, IMO, Johnny J IS/WAS the sound of 2pac, na mean? They go hand in hand. but that's no excuse to drop him, he did most of my all time fav Pac songs, alot of which are unreleased in original form. I was always curious why Johnny J was dropped on 7 day theory, in the article it says a newer sound was wanted on this. white mans world, to live and die in LA, and most of all Krazy, are legendary tracks. There is a cheap general MIDI sound module sound to alot of the tracks. he took all those sub-par beats and still made a classic album. I would give the production on that album a 4 out of 10. but the beat still sounds like a beginner made it. The song "Hail Mary" sounds like a "Cheap Generic Gangsta" beat. the production and the mix sound terrible. The song "Bomb First" sounds like a "Demo".

and for this to be the follow up to "AEOM".

and the production was very "Amateurish". When I first heard this album I thought that it sounded "Cheap". Thanks for sharing OP, will read at some point. Cause their beats were sub par, I've always disliked this album due to the beats, I reckon itcould have been far better if they'd let the regulars handle it.įair play for giving the 'B' room producers a shot but it does just make me think they were in the wack room(or whatever it was they used to call it) for a reason, especially in comparison to the production on TL, MATW and AEOM.
